Ashton Kutcher Hates Valentine’s Day

Ashton Kutcher went on record stating that he hated Valentine’s Day. Ashton Kutcher is married to 47-year old actress Demi Moore. Ashton Kutcher does not think one day out of the year should be set aside for romance. He thinks everyday should be romantic. Well, that statement probably makes most women envious of Demi Moore.

Valentine’s Day has a long history dating to the Roman Empire. In ancient Rome, February 14th was a holiday to honor the Queen Juno who was the Queen of the Roman Gods and Goddesses. The Romans also knew her as the Goddess of women and marriage. The following day, February 15th, began the Feast of Lupercalia.

In Roman society boys and girls lives were strictly demarcated. However, on February 14th the names of Roman girls would be placed in jars and boys would choose a name and be paired with the girl during the course of the festival. It was not uncommon for the pairings to fall in love and later marry.

When Christianity became popular the Church attempted to do away with such festivals. But they had little success. Instead, they swapped in St. Valentine who was a Christian martyr who allegedly sent the famous note “From Your Valentine”. But the custom of men choosing women remained.

So Ashton Kutcher is right. Everyday should be romantic if you are in love but Valentine’s Day may be a perfect time to hunt for love or the one appreciative of your affections.
